So Athena and Apollo are getting along really well.  Within 24 hours they were playing like they'd been friends forever.  I've got a few pictures posted on facebook here, and will post more later when we have internet at home.  Here's one of my favorites:

Current Mood: busy
...has now been added to the list of things I must try at least once.  It is bacon dipped in a batter and deep-fried.  As if bacon wasn't unhealthy enough already, they made it better!  The restaurant serves it...on top of a salad.  New food network show "The Best Thing I Ever Ate" is officially deemed a success.

Current Mood: excited
Dinner & a show in Chicago last night was SO MUCH FUN!  (see Craig's post if you don't know what I'm talking about)  I'd definitely do Korean BBQ again, and Hedwig was everything I could've hoped it would be and more.

30 days until moving!  Anybody that's willing to help pack the truck on Sunday, 28 June please let me know.  I'm completely stoked about the move.  Not even apprehensive about it anymore except for the "how in the hell are we gonna afford this?"  My dad is coming up to help us move, so the road trip part should be fun, too.

Other than that, not much going on.  It's nice, really.  The last year of classes was so ridiculously busy that it's wonderful to be able to sit on my ass and do nothing.  More of that to come.

Current Mood: ecstatic
DONEDONEDONEDONEDONEDONEDONEDONEDONEDONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  'bout frikin time!  Took my last final today, which was a make-up because I had the flu when we were scheduled to take the final.  Walked out of the library trying not to scream, run, jump, and dance.  I have my first shift of my new job tomorrow...at 6 a.m. in Peoria.  So I'll be going to bed before the sun goes down, which would seem weird if I hadn't spent much of the last week in bed.  Nevertheless, I'm in a really good mood right now, and can hardly keep my eyes open due to Melatonin, so I think it's a good time to curl up and watch some tv before bed.

Current Mood: pathetic
So I seem to be over the flu part of the flu, but the residual effects are a bitch and a half.  Still not really hungry (and rather afraid to eat).  VERY dehydrated, and water wasn't doing the trick so I switched to gatorade today.  Here's hoping that helps.  Going back to the doctor tomorrow to see if I can get something for the pain my entire body is in and my inability to sleep.  I missed a final and my thesis defense because of this shit, but I can make up the final and my thesis professor will take my performance at the conference I went to for the defense grade.  Only problem is that I can hardly see straight so I'm finding it very hard to finish my other paper and study for the test.  I really need to get over this BS.

Apr. 13th, 2009 @ 08:14 pm I helped save a dog's life today!
Current Mood: ecstatic
As a result, I'm feeling exceptionally happy.  A manager at my work recently acquired a dog that they can't keep, but she didn't want to send it to the pound and risk it getting put down.  So I suggested that she call the no-kill shelter just outside of town.  15 minutes later, they called her back saying they'd take the dog in a few days, and send it to a new home a week later!  Hooray!

Mar. 24th, 2009 @ 11:22 am Interviews
Current Mood: accomplished
I started the interviews for my thesis yesterday and they're going really well. They're taking a lot less time than I thought, which means more time for writing. I'm also finally getting questions answered without each question bringing up 18 more! The weekend after next I have the CSAS conference that I'm presenting my paper at, and I've decided to enter my thesis in their student paper competition. I could win $300 and get my paper published. I don't know if I really expect to win or not, but there's no reason not to try.

Break went very well. Got a list of possible apartments to live in, visited the museum I want to work at, and had a good time. Now I dive back into work for the rest of the semester. That was just what I needed.

Current Mood: happy
So this has been the best spring break I've had in quite a while. Athena has made buddies with my dad's cat, Loki, and is okay with most of the other cats except she seems to be trying to take the position of top cat. She and Stormy (the current top cat) tend to be at odds, but at least it's mostly hissing and not fighting.

We went to the Houston Museum of Natural Science yesterday which was COMPLETELY AWESOME. When I went into the volunteer center to get some info about volunteering when I move down there, I got to pet a baby alligator.  It was very cute and squeaked a lot. I really hope I can get a job there, even if it takes a while. I can see myself spending a ton of time there. Pictures will be posted on facebook whenever I get the chance. We were gonna go to the Museum of Fine Arts today but it was pouring rain so we stayed in until late afternoon and went to a place called Main Event (arcade games, laser tag, bowling, pool, etc.) instead. Much fun was had. Tomorrow will just be a day to rest up for the loooooong drive back.

I'm even more excited about moving down here than I was before. Looking at apartments and seeing the museum has got me totally psyched. But I ought to have plenty to keep me busy until then, what with thesis and internship and all. This has been a nice relaxing break, just what I needed. And I even got some work on my thesis done while down here, so I'm feelin pretty damned good.

Mar. 7th, 2009 @ 09:36 am Texas!
Current Mood: tired
Down in Texas visiting my dad and looking for an apartment for when I move.  It'll be a nice vacation, fun stuff and relaxing planned.  The drive down, on the other hand, was....kinda like the game Oregon Trail.  First, had to stop because a member of the party was injured.  Athena somehow managed to tear off a claw down to the quick....so emergency stop for gauze and tape at 11:45 at night.  Then we lost the trail, or thought we did, but it turned out to just be a very long, winding path through a VERY creepy area to get back to the road.  Later, tried to stop at a park to let Athena out to romp for a bit, and the car was attacked by wild animals.  Stray dogs, to be exact, at least two of them pit bulls.  I've never seen a dog bite a car before, but I've got teeth marks on my bumper now.  I also went "hunting" for a Whataburger that was close to the road.  Combine all that with a few wrong turns and the bad directions I got, and the trip ended up taking longer than it needed to.  But, made it just fine, and looking forward to a (mostly) relaxing week.  Waffle House and Watchmen is the plan for today.

I'm officially finished with the literature review chapter of my thesis.  Hooray!  Even better, my professor said it is exactly what a literature review chapter should be, and he wants to use it as an example of an exemplary thesis.  Well alright then, double hooray!  Now I am to the point of doing the actual interviews, so if anyone knows of anybody that would be a good person to interview, for the love of god let me know.  Here is my list of professions I want to interview:
  • doctor
  • lawyer
  • journalist/author
  • maintenance
  • CPA
  • professor
  • military personnel
  • sales
  • police
  • researcher
  • sports coach
  • engineer
  • politics
  • philosophy
  • therapist
I am by no means restricted to this list, I just chose these because it seemed like they would have interesting answers, as well as a wide range of answers. I have some ideas, but nowhere near as many as I need.

For anyone who doesn't remember, my thesis is studying how people in a profession say "I don't know" without actually saying the words "I don't know" (or saying the words, but qualifying them with something). I would be eternally grateful for any suggestions, the only stipulation is that I need to be able to meet with this person face-to-face, so it has to be someone within (reasonable) driving distance.
